Scope Of Work
rand* teamed with Moody Nolan DC and Schlenger/Pitz & Associates to deliver a complete design/build solution for the DC Office of Public Educational Facilities and Modernzation (OPEFM) as part of the DC Schools Summer Blitz of 2011.
To transform the quality of education in our city’s schools, the District created a Master Facilities Plan (MFP) in 2008 to bring the benefit of modernized schools to as many students as possible, as soon as possible. Maury School is part of the second wave of this process.
School modernization begins with the classrooms, and in these efforts five key areas are identified: lighting, air quality and conditioning, technology, acoustics, and furniture and fixtures. These areas are addressed upfront because improving the learning environment is the most immediate priority.
rand* teamed with the Jarvis Company in a joint venture as JCo rand* to pursue this effort. Having successfully completed both Johnson Middle School and MLK Elementary School under the 2010 DC Summer School Blitz, lessons learned were applied to achieve an even higher degree of classroom modernization.
