Scope Of Work
From the flood tunnel inlet at Santa Rosa Street & IH-35 to the confluence of the Alazán and Apache Creeks to the south, the San Pedro Creek Improvements Project in divided into a total of four phases. Phase 1-A has been projected to be complete by the Tricentennial celebration in May of 2018.
The San Antonio River Authority and Bexar County, in coordination with the City of San Antonio, have undertaken this project to transform San Pedro Creek from a concrete-lined drainage ditch into a world-class linear park and natural creek habitat; Through the use of bioswales, aquatic plantings and the removal of floatables, this project will advance the water quality and ensure the sustainability of all effected biotic habitats.
Thanks to Sundt-Davila’s Joint Venture, the 100-year flood pain will now be contained within the banks, by widening the existing channel and replacing eight street bridges. These bridges and widened walkways will not only mitigate flooding, but will allow patrons of the city celebrate and express the rich culture, history, and natural qualities of Bexar County through a series of temporary and permanent artworks, artistic treatments, interpretive signage, performances and interactive exhibits. With idyllic paseos, iconic portals, pastoral pavilions, and places of respite, the San Pedro Creek Improvements will catalyze a $1.5 billion economic impact by creating an influx of new housing units, bringing with it downtown employees and residents, increasing the property value by a projected 150%.
