Scope Of Work

Dating to 1900, the Aethelwold Hotel is a historic building situated in the heart of Brevard, NC. As an adaptive re-use project, each of the building’s three floors will be intentioned with different end goals in mind. Currently complete, the first floor is designated for retail spaces and features a fully-restored lobby which houses a permanent display of memorabilia celebrating the rich history of the hotel and Brevard community. The 9,000SF second floor will be split into six units, allowing a mixture of residential and commercial, while the 8,000SF third floor will be strictly residential. The interior architecture and design of each unit will be customized with personal input from prospective tenants.

With a sharp eye for the building’s original architectural elements, we have endeavored to maintain historical continuity throughout the structure while incorporating contemporary amenities to benefit both the tenants and the community. The building’s detailed brick edifice and Mansard roof have been rebuilt, presenting a stately street presence. Additionally, the interior has presented many opportunities to be sensitive to the historic character of the hotel. The stair tower and elevator are similar to the original, both in scale and material, while the second floor maintains original exposed brick. Original material from the building has been re-used where feasible. Tenants may make use of the underground parking deck and its attached private elevator, while the rear parking area will be available for private lease. A community plaza is proposed to border the hotel, creating an outdoor venue for community events such as live music and festivals. Construction is expected to be complete by fall 2014.
