Scope Of Work
ICI constructed a 9,000 square foot, 3-wall expansion to Joe Caputo & Sons existing Palatine store. Family-owned and operated for over 20 years, Joe Caputo & Sons offers customers the freshest fruits and vegetables and specializes in Italian specialties. Each of their locations includes produce, a deli, butcher shop and grocery departments, in addition to dairy products and a bakery with breads and pastries. Products are stocked from all over the country.
During construction, ICI removed approximately 90% of the existing exterior masonry wall to create openings for the new building shell. New coolers and freezers were installed in the new addition, along with additional checkout lanes and a new pizza and gelato café.
The café features handmade pizza baked in a newly installed stone pizza oven.
A 3,300 square foot mezzanine above the new coolers and freezers allows for added equipment storage.
Work within the store included remodeling of the bakery and vestibule and relocation of the freezers. Site work included a new parking lot; expanding the existing capacity by 25 spaces.
Remaining open during construction was of utmost importance to the Owner. ICI coordinated night work for many trades to avoid disruption or inconvenience to store employees or patrons and the store remained fully operational throughout construction.
