Scope Of Work

Connecticut healthcare designer, Richard Turlington has completed over 50 projects for Griffin Hospital since the Hospital adopted the Planetree philosophy.  The total body of work is in excess of $40M and through that experience is where Richard Turlington became proficient in wellness and how the effects of ones surroundings will impact mood, behavior and feelings.  Richard Turlington Architects supports the Planetree model and Griffin Hospital for what they were able to accomplish.  The healthcare and interior designs of the projects exemplify the commitment of the Hospital to fundamentally changing the relationship between methods of health care delivery between its communities.  One of the Hospital’s most important projects is the renovation of their inpatient psychiatric facility.  The holistic approach that Richard Turlington’s designs are known for was applied to all of the Griffin Hospital projects, and collaboratively chose to find design inspiration in making the Planetree model alive in the spaces and their configuration from the largest planning decisions to the smallest detail of hardware selection.  In this way, the Planetree model of patient care can be felt in every space without one word having to be uttered.  The architecture that results from this design strategy nurtures the unique relationship between patient and doctor, patient and nursing staff and hospital and community.
