Overview:This project included the renovation of Mitchell Park Playground & Recreation Center.
The Mitchell Park Playground was a design-build project in the neighborhood community of Kalorama. The scope of work included the installation of new playground equipment, new Pebbleflex surface, picnic tables, concrete walkway, water fountains, resurfacing of tennis court, fencing repair and relighting the area. The renovation included ADA improvements to the gravel transition ramp.
The Mitchell Park Recreation Center was a comprehensive building renovation project. It included the demolition and abatement of all the exterior features including the wood siding, columns, windows, trim, gutter system, entry door and the entire façade was repainted. The brick chimney was stripped, pointed up, repaired, and left exposed to enhance the aesthetic value of the facade. The interior renovation included new attic ladder, doors, hardware, MCT sheet flooring, interior trim, light fixtures, patch and painting existing walls, thermal protection at the attic, water fountain and a new ductless mini split system. Supplementary to these improvements, the restrooms were completely renovated with new floor and wall tile, fixtures, accessories, tank-less water heaters at each sink, and baseboard heaters. All door openings throughout the interior were modified to meet ADA standards.
It was delivered on time and on budget. The total of CBE participation for the Mitchell Park projects was 43%.
