Scope Of Work

The School of Natural Science and Engineering Research at the University of Texas at Dallas had outgrown its existing lab spaces. The university hired Vaughn as the general contractor to convert an existing facility into additional lab space.

The existing structure was a 7,000 SF metal building constructed in the 1960s that had previously been used for miscellaneous shop and campus maintenance functions. We removed exterior metal panels and upgraded the building aesthetics with storefront assemblies and a water-tight metal wall panel system. We performed extensive work on the existing slab to install underground utilities and meet structural slab requirements for the lab. Then we installed new MEPF systems to accommodate the laboratory functions.

The newly renovated facility provides additional space by housing the high impact mechanics lab and aerogel lab for the School of Natural Science and Engineering Research.
