Scope Of Work

Longhorn Coach Tom Herman wanted the University of Texas at Austin’s athletic center upgrade to create a showcase space for recruiting the best high school football players to join the Longhorn team. He wanted the new space to be modern, durable, and unique. The University of Texas hired Vaughn to upgrade the existing locker room, weight room, and field entrances to meet this vision.

The custom lockers feature backlit transparent pocket doors, custom slide-out stainless steel gear racks with glove hooks, helmet and shoulder pad pedestals equipped with internal fans, adjustable stainless steel shelving, and a locking drawer with full power and dual USB connections. Behind the gear rack, each locker includes a patent-pending ventilation system, customizable by the player, to keep their gear dry. A 37-inch television serves as a high-tech nameplate showcasing each individual player’s stats above their locker. Bright orange track lighting is recessed behind stainless steel benches that also serve as ventilated foot lockers.

Throughout the UT Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletic Center upgrades include gleaming stainless steel restrooms and showers, a new weight room, newly refinished corridors between the field entrance, meeting rooms, and locker room, and public spaces. The hallways are adorned with Bevo and other insignia as well as uniforms, NFL insignia and player stats, LED video boards, enhanced lighting, a new sound system, and improved connectivity.

Our project team completely demolished and built back the entire space in less than four months, turning the locker room over to UT for use one month early, and $1 million under budget. The new Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletic Center offers the next generation of Texas Longhorns an impressive, modern environment in which to grow their athletic careers.
