Scope Of Work

Since its inception in 1919, Houston Methodist Hospital System has grown to include seven full-service community hospitals and multiple health care service centers throughout the Houston metro area. Vaughn Construction has been fortunate to build or expand many of these facilities over the past 29 years. So, when the hospital system wanted to expand into The Woodlands suburb of Houston, they selected Vaughn to provide construction manager-at-risk services.

The new campus includes a 480,000 SF full-service hospital, a six-level, 161,000 SF medical office building, and a new central plant. The 193-bed hospital has 34 emergency department exam treatment rooms, 16 intensive care rooms, 96 medical/surgical patient rooms, 10 operating rooms, including one hybrid and two robotic operating rooms for performing delicate heart and transplant procedures, a catheterization lab, and Siemens 3T and 1.5T MRIs. The fourth floor offers a 46,000 SF state-of-the-art birthing center including 12 labor, delivery, recovery, and post-partum rooms, four labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, eight antepartum/postpartum rooms, seven NICU patient rooms, three C-section rooms, a nursery with 15 bassinet wells, and a six-bay triage. Patients are welcomed by a grand entrance atrium with soothing fountains, a full kitchen with multiple dining options, a chapel, and gift shop. Administrative amenities include a sky plaza conference center with a coffee bar and deli, a physician’s lounge, and a full gymnasium. Adjacent to the hospital, surface parking for 1,464 cars is provided for use by patients and administrative personnel.

The first phase of the campus, including the medical office building, central utility plant, and parking areas, were turned over one year ahead of the hospital completion, and just 15 months after breaking ground on the development.

The new hospital now provides full acute care services to the residents of The Woodlands and surrounding communities.
