Scope Of Work
Houston First Corporation initiated a series of construction projects in downtown Houston to revitalize the area, including a new 10-story office building with an adjoining seven level, 1,900-vehicle parking garage, and a complete façade refresh at George R. Brown Convention Center, with associated landscape improvements. Vaughn was selected to serve as construction manager-at-risk for the redevelopment project.
A METRO light rail line running through the project site and a busy convention schedule created a challenge for our team during construction. We worked evening shifts to perform the work when it would have the least impact on daily activities of the convention center and rail line. We erected the pre-cast, and exterior skin above the rail line after METRO shut down for the night. We coordinated around multiple heavy event schedules of the occupied, fully operational convention center for events such as the quilt show and the NCAA Final Four. Each event required us to complete specific items sequentially and quickly to avoid impacting the METRO rail line activities and to keep the project schedule on track.
