Scope Of Work
The configuration of taxiways at the intersection of Runway 14-32 and Runway 5-23 did need meet FAA design standards and had two hot spot locations. A Safety Risk Management Panel reviewed alternatives and selected a design to mitigate runway incursions by correcting taxiway layouts, improving signage, and adding runway guard lights. Reconfiguring the geometry of the midfield taxiways increased pilot situational awareness and met design standards. This project included removal of 23,000 square yards of taxiway pavements; construction of a new Taxiway J; reconstruction of Taxiway H; concrete apron expansion; drainage improvements; six runway guard lights; electrical, lighting, signage, marking, and utility improvements. The construction safety phasing plan (CSPP) was broken into four phases that balanced the need to maintain operations with a reasonable construction timeframe. The work was substantially completed under budget in 10 weeks (well ahead of schedule). This project received an Engineering Excellence Awards Honor Award from ACEC Ohio.
