Scope Of Work
Challenge
Cyrcon Builders has completed six full store renovations between 2009 and present. Walmart has a very sophisticated method of qualifying and training contractors, and Cyrcon has been recognized by Walmart as a trusted vendor. Most recently, Cyrcon completed the remodel of the 155,000 square foot Walmart in Duarte. The project plan included a full store remodel including all flooring, all lighting, remodeling all departments inside the store, a complete air conditioning and refrigeration retrofit, seismic retrofit of racking and shelving, all new cashier stations, parking lot refurbishment, as well as temporary departments during construction.
For the Duarte Project, Cyrcon Builders was tasked to complete all work in thirteen weeks, starting October 1 and ending right before Christmas. However, Walmart was delayed in obtaining construction permits and resultantly Cyrcon Builders was tasked with delivering the project in just ten weeks. This was an immense undertaking and to add to the challenge, the entire store remained open during the project during the holiday rush. Cyrcon Builders constructed 6 temporary department spaces and moved department in phases during the ten week schedule, allowing all departments to stay open all of the time.
Results
Cost – Cyrcon Builders completed the project on budget
Schedule – By utilizing their team of project managers and engineers, Cyrcon Builders accomplished the Duarte Walmart Remodel in the ten weeks it was given. By way of contrast, Cyrcon Builders remodeled 155,000 SF in less time than it took McDonalds to build their store within the Duarte Walmart. But getting the job done in the specified time period was not the primary value that Cyrcon Builders delivered to Walmart. The real value provided was that this store’s revenue never slowed down during the entire construction period. During the construction duration, Walmart made the same four million dollars in revenue that they expected to make without any construction. Walmart's often loose ten percent of their total revenue during a major renovation such as this, and we were able to help them avoid that.
Quality – The project met all of Walmart’s quality expectations.
