Scope Of Work

The Philadelphia School District Capital Improvement Program was implement­ed to maintain and upgrade over 300 of the school district’s buildings that have been declared to be in critical condition and in need of immediate attention. Over 66% of the district’s buildings are now 50 years of age or older; many of which have experienced years of insufficient or no capital funding, and as a result show extreme deterioration.

GeoStructures has been awarded a two-year open-ended contract to perform construction inspection and material testing services for the school facilities projects included in the Capital Improvement Program. Our services throughout this project include the following: soil compaction, structural fill gradations, concrete, masonry, reinforcement bars (rebar), structural steel welding, asphalt testing, asbestos identification, and other inspection or testing services as required during the course of construction. All work completed will be in compliance with specific ASTM and AASHTO standards. Multiple work orders have been completed or are ongoing, including the following schools:

• Northeast High School classroom trailers
• McCall Elementary School fire escape tower and façade remediation
• Mayfair Elementary School addition
• Ben Franklin High School loading dock slab replacement
• Northeast High School PCB transformer replacement
• Murrell Dobbins High School addition
• J. Hampton Moore ES renovation
• Samuel Fels Junior HS demolition

Separately, as the geotechnical engineer of record, GeoStructures performed comprehensive subsurface investigations for the proposed 2 buildings:

•  Central High School Performing Art Center
• Solis Cohen Elementary School New Building

For both projects, we performed double ring infiltration testing as well as borehole infiltration testing for the proposed storm water management facilities in accordance with PWD guidelines.
