Farhad Zaltash's Bio
I have been the recipients of four recognition awards in the traffic-engineering and transportation- planning fields in Los Angeles area, three awarded by the Los Angeles City Council members and one awarded by the Los Angeles Board-of-Public-Works-Commissioners. My diverse experience includes a total of 33 years in the field of traffic engineering and transportation planning, 23 years with Los Angeles-Department-of-Transportation (LADOT) and 4 years with CALTRANS-District-7. Nineteen years of my have been at the supervisory and managerial levels. I established the ABC Traffic, Inc. in 2001, as a part time consulting work providing traffic engineering and transportation planning services. I have initiated, developed and successfully completed regionally significant transportation improvement projects in Los Angeles area as part of my LADOT experience. Some of the projects I have has worked on have been controversial. I have been a consensus builder and have used this skill as such, working collaboratively and in close coordination with the local council offices, bringing all the stakeholders together including community groups and business owners for successful project implementations. And, in this capacity I have been the recipient of the above-mentioned awards. My technical background is rich in planning, operation and design – I managed the successful completion of a number of traffic-impact-study and parking-study projects as principle-in-charge of the ABC Traffic, Inc. during past 8 years; successfully completed a number of high profile regionally transportation corridor improvement projects with LADOT; managed the Los Angeles’ internationally recognized Traffic-Management-Center (together a total of 10 years of signal timing experience), extensive signal design and construction experiences (completed app. 150 traffic signal plans over a 6-year period, both with LADOT and Caltrans), have extensive handson neighborhood-traffic-investigation and handling of special-event experiences. My broad range of experience has allowed me to train and be a mentor to many young engineers in the field of transportation engineering. I am a member of Institute-of-Transportation-Engineers (ITE),have participated in ITE seminars, published a paper and gave a presentation during the 2002-District-6-ITE-in-Palm-DesertSeminar on the controversial nature of one of my projects. The focus of the paper was the need for local transportation agencies to listen to community groups from projects’ early-on stages, and be willing to make compromises during the course of the project for successful project implementation.
