Scope Of Work
The focus of the Smithfield Schools Capital Improvement Project was to provide additions and alterations to three elementary schools to create additional classroom and learning spaces, along with accessibility and safety improvements while providing secure entrances, all while facilitating the closure of an aging school and consolidating those students into the newly renovated schools. The three elementary schools now have a combined capacity for 1200 students from Pre-K through Fifth Grade
McCabe Elementary School was expanded to accommodate students from the closing William Winsor Elementary School. The Project included a one-story addition for classrooms, media center/ learning lab, new music room, as well as renovations to the cafeteria/kitchen, a new two-story gymnasium, and bus entrance. Upon completion this school was renamed the Pleasant View Elementary School
The Raymond LaPerche Elementary School: The Project included a one-story addition for classrooms, art, learning lab, and a separate Pre-K/K entry.
The Old County Elementary School: The Project included a two-story addition for media center, lobby, art & music rooms; added an elevator for handicap accessibility to the second floor, and one-story area for admin offices
Since this project was significantly under budget change orders totaling over six million dollars have been processed to add into the Project work not part of the original Scope. Despite the added scope, the schools were substantially completed in time for classes to begin in September 2021
