Scope Of Work
This project scope included tuck pointing of historic weathered masonry to match original color and mortar striking; restoration of original historic wood windows, balconies, porches and railings; environmental protection and remediation; and coordination of work within occupied spaces. The Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Office had material standards requirements for composition, quality and appearance. In addition, the project required value engineering services, and extensive coordination of masonry and window restoration work with client occupancies. All work was performed in accordance with DOI Regulations, 36 CFR 67.
A client occupancy relocation strategy was developed that facilitated window removal in small groups; this enable a specific solution for each window. Asbestos-containing glazing putty was removed; lead paint was prepared for primer and two coats of new paint; sashes required partial reconstruction with new components; glazing was replaced as required. By refinishing jambs and trim in place, and custom fabricating/finishing stops and components in the shop, Opcon minimized project costs, client disruption and site contamination risk.
