Scope Of Work
Over the past 20 years, Allegrone Masonry has provided St. Ann’s Church in downtown Lenox, Massachusetts, with a variety of successful small masonry repairs, routine maintenance, and large restoration projects. The 1911-12 building constructed of the indigenous blue dolomitic limestone found on many places of worship in Berkshire County, precast window surrounds, capstones, ornate arches, and rose window, have all needed some level of repair, reconstruction, or replacement at some point.
Yearly maintenance and small projects consisting of re-pointing, stone replacement, caulking, and micro crack injection with low viscosity repair grouts, stair reconstruction and rail replacements, list a short number of tasks and projects performed by Allegrone to maintain the integrity of this well preserved building.
Well beyond the yearly maintenance scope of work, Allegrone Masonry was the successful low bidder for the bell-tower reconstruction project performed in 2009. As with most of our restoration work, great care was taken to meticulously photograph, document, and label the exact placement of the existing stones prior to removal. Once removed, the top 8 feet of the bell-tower walls were rebuilt with 8” CMU, the existing stone veneer, a mixture of new and existing capstones, new roof, and custom copper thru wall flashing. Prior to scaffold removal, an extensive re-pointing of the upper and mid-level bell-tower was performed.
St. Ann’s Church is an excellent example of the longevity of masonry construction with proper routine maintenance.
