Scope Of Work

The new 463,000 square-foot manufacturing plant is on 130 acres beside a Class I railroad and along Route 9 in Ranson, West Virginia.  Public water and sewer lines were extended and a natural-gas line for the new plant with WVDOH Northport Avenue extension built to access the facility. The facility is a Design-Build project with multiple structures.  The proposed steel framed structures have a combination of spread footings with ground improvements and deep foundations.  The proposed industrial facilities will be a combination of steel and masonry framed structures.

SCOPE OF SERVICES:

Specialized Engineering has provided Geotechnical services related to the proposed project site and structure design elements as well as providing Material Testing and Inspection services during the site construction phase.

Geotechnical Engineering Services include feasibility studies; preliminary soils review and classification (including Karst topography); review and development of number of borings, location and depth; soils/site investigations including borings/test pits, soil classification, stratification, and recommendations for soil bearing capacity in accordance with County and Municipal standards; determination of ground water levels; and preparation of geotechnical reports including recommendations for excavation, SWM elements, fill and backfill, cut and fill, and foundation system, pavement, and slab design.

Field Quality Control and Special Inspection Services include soil compaction testing and inspection; subgrade stripping and proof-roll inspection; utility installation and pavement installation.  Services during the structure construction phase include deep foundation inspection; soil bearing, reinforcement steel and formwork inspection; concrete placement testing and inspection; spray-applied fireproofing and fire stopping system inspections; mortar sampling testing and masonry inspection; structural steel and light-gage framing inspection; pre-cast concrete inspection; and waterproofing inspection.

Laboratory Testing & Analysis Services include soil classification, moisture/density relationship, natural moisture and concrete cylinder compression.  During the structure construction phase the proposed services also included mortar and grout masonry compression, fireproofing density and concrete flexural strength.
