Scope Of Work
The “Diverging Diamond” is the first of its kind in the State of Nebraska. Hawkins Construction completed this major urban project in just 23 months, and the resulting reconfiguration provides significantly better traffic flow, quicker movement through left-turn signals, and improved interstate access. This improved flow is a great benefit to local businesses and residents, as well as drivers traveling west and to downtown Lincoln. Access to Memorial Stadium from the interstate is also much easier now.
Hawkins’ work included the construction of three new bridges, demolition of four bridges, 270,000 square yards of concrete paving or surfacing, 163,000 square yards of pavement removal, 10,150 feet of median barrier curb, over 17,000 linear feet of culvert/storm sewer work, 490,000 cubic yards of earthwork, as well as lighting, signing, and landscaping.
All traffic was maintained by multiple phases and routing traffic onto existing, temporary, or new permanent paving.
