Founder, President and CEO James S. Bernardo has over 30 years experience in the Energy Services industry. Mr. Bernardo founded Candela Systems Corporation in 1994. His career began in 1986 working in various capacities, as a foreman and field supervisor, division manager and installation supervisor. After working in and watching the industry for 8 years, Mr. Bernardo saw the benefits and positive aspects of using energy efficient lighting, not only for the client but for the environment as well. Presented with an opportunity, Mr. Bernardo found Candela Systems Corporation in 1994. Built upon Mr. Bernardo’s philosophy that our children’s future is dependent upon environmental preservation and conservation, Candela Systems Corporation has been on the forefront of technological advances. In the last 30 years, Candela Systems Corporation has championed energy efficient lighting systems, partnering with the EPA on the former Green Lights Project and Energy Star Program.

To date, James Bernardo is the inventor of two U.S. patents. Mr. Bernardo holds certificates as a Lighting Certified (LC) by the NCQLP National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions, Certified Lighting Management Consultant (CLMC) by NALMCO Inter National Association of Lighting Management Companies, and a Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP) by AEE Association of Energy Engineers. He is also a past Vice President of the Certification Chair for and currently a member and committee chair of NALMCO and the past President and current member of the Mid-Hudson Valley Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). Mr. Bernardo currently serves on the Board of IMTI, the Industrial Management Training Institute. In the past, Mr. Bernardo has served as a judge at the annual BOCES Electrical Competition.
