Scope Of Work
The J.H.C. Petersen's Sons' Store was built in downtown Davenport in 1892, as the flagship retail store of what would become Von Maur. In 2004, Estes completed a historical restoration of the four-story building creating first floor commercial space, a second floor museum and event venue and two floors of office space. The building had been unoccupied for over ten years and was in a state of significant disrepair. It was listed as “the most endangered historic building to be torn down in Davenport.” Estes collaborated with the building’s owner, SGGM Architects and the Davenport Historic Preservation Commission to develop effective Smart Choices® and utilize Federal historic tax credits that would help fund the restoration.
The office spaces retain many of the original design features, including tin tile ceilings and exposed ductwork. The building was restored to accommodate communications cabling systems without compromising details that the original architect designed. Estes occupies the fourth floor of the Redstone Building and continues to be committed to preserving history through building restoration projects.
