Scope Of Work
Grunley repaired and restored the landside façade of the Terminal A building, a major air transportation hub at National Airport for almost 70 years. Originally constructed in 1941, the façade is built of concrete and due to years of weather exposure, was in deteriorating condition. Grunley removed and replaced over 1300 cubic feet of concrete, all by hand-applied patches. In addition, we sand-blasted and epoxy-coated more than 11,000 linear feet of existing rebar in order to remove corrosion, replaced the windows and structurally reinforced the building. Lastly, our team also restored ceiling mosaic artwork, exterior building lettering and original light fixtures on columns. The terminal remained occupied throughout the construction process. The project won a Washington Contractor Award from the Associated General Contractors of America and a Citation from the American Institute of Architects/Potomac Valley Chapter.
