Scope Of Work

This project consisted of constructing the Human Ecology Building (HEB), one in a cluster of buildings utilized by the College of Human Ecology.

The 89,000 SF state-of-the-art research and learning space houses high–tech research laboratories, versatile multi–purpose classrooms, a drawing, design and fabrication studio and a spacious gallery to display student and faculty works. In addition, the building has community spaces and seminar rooms for collaborative projects. The HEB is connected to MVR Hall through a large gathering space called the Human Ecology Commons.

This was the first LEED® Platinum certified building on the Cornell University campus. One notable sustainable feature of this project was an extensive real-time energy usage monitoring system, allowing occupants to reduce their environmental impact. Other sustainable features included development of a sustainable site, limited energy use and emissions and a vast green roof with more than 25,000 native plants.

The HEB was built on top of a three-story parking garage which greatly diminished the building’s environmental footprint.
