Scope Of Work
The WRF originally included a single sludge belt press to remove liquid from sludge solid-liquid solid-liquid suspension. The press uses two porous belts which allow both gravity and pressurized dewatering of the sludge. As the plant was lacking redundancy on their sludge dewatering operations, an additional sludge belt press was installed and the existing press was installed and the existing press was refurbished by FDC. The addition of another sludge belt press will allow for improved maintenance since one of the presses can be shut down without impacting the wastewater treatment process. This project also included the expansion of the existing Belt Press Building to allow for both sludge belt presses to be operated indoors.
Additionally, theWWTP Facility includes a single reclaimed water tank with a capacity of 1.0MG. Reclaimed water is, at times, stored in the reject water tank which has a capacity of 1.4MG. During drought periods, there is not enough reclaimed water available to serve the residents, businesses, the City of Cocoa Beach, and Port Canaveral. Therefore, as part of Florida Design Contractors scope of work, an additional 2.5MG ReclaimedWater Tank was constructed to store reclaimed water for usage during drought periods. This additional storage capacity will also allow the City to discontinue its frequent discharge of treated wastewater to the Banana River, body of water regulated by the St. Johns Water Management River District.
