Scope Of Work
Just 5 weeks before the historic move, Traffic Management, Inc. was hired to orchestrate the 3.2 mile journey of The Space Shuttle through Inglewood to California Science Center was an endeavor of its own. As launch time neared, additions and changes arose and the scope expanded.
In the end, TMI field and office staff joined with the police department to mitigate thousands of people, as well as traffic to properly place steel plates and barricades along the shuttles path to ensure a safe move.
So efficient was that move, that Endeavour was 1 ½ hours ahead of schedule, resulting in a “mad scramble” on a large arterial street that was not yet closed. Fortunately, we had enough equipment and expertise to ultimately close the road completely and prevent any incidents.
All in all, this project was a stellar success. And with TMI’s priority of safety, the fact that there were no incidents is a triumph. It’s a testament to our ability to work together with 16 companies and government agencies, thousands of civilians and one massive spaceship, and get the job done right and on time.
