Scope Of Work

Geographically located near the center of the Florida Keys, Islamorada is home to the 42 acre Founders Park which features tennis courts, an Olympic size pool, sandy beaches, a baseball field, and a playground. Within this sprawling park is the newly rebuilt 88 slip marina, Plantation Yacht Harbor, constructed by Shoreline Foundation. The marina was so severely damaged by a series of hurricanes which impacted the Florida Keys, that it required complete demolition and reconstruction. The reconstruction effort was funded in part by infrastructure redevelopment assistance provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The rebuilding of the marina was complicated by the requirement that the facility had to remain open and cause minimal disruption to the its patrons . Work began with the demolition and reconstruction of the walkway and 16 finger piers, (which can accommodate vessels up to 80 feet in length), was followed by the 750 foot long main pier, and was completed with the T-head dock and 10 finger pier docks, which are encountered first when entering the marina by boat. A state of the art fuel dock facility was constructed to complete the services offered by the marina. To increase the longevity of the docks, special “tropical” pine lumber with impregnated wax treatment was used. To prevent damage from future storm related floodwaters. all marina related utilities located on the upland were elevated on dedicated structures.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, together with the Clean Boating Partnership, recognized Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina as Florida’s 82nd Clean Marina. Shoreline Foundation is a proponent of this program and provides marine construction services that help to make it possible for our marina clients to qualify for this designation.
