Scope Of Work

VALLEY STREAM, NY – Young people with autism spectrum disorders face a lot of challenges as they enter adulthood, including how to live an independent life in a safe, comfortable place where they can be themselves—a place they can call home. When Jim and Frank Padavan of AirDesign, Inc. in Valley Stream heard about Karen’s Hope, a non-profit project to create just such a home for young adults with developmental disabilities, they jumped right in to help. With almost 50 years of experience in making home a comfortable place through efficient heating and cooling, AirDesign had the know-how to make a real contribution. The Padavans developed a solution that would not only contribute to the comfort of the young residents at the Karen’s Hope house in Seaford, but also help the non-profit keep future utility costs down by using high-efficiency equipment in an appropriate design.

Karen Siler, founder of Karen’s Hope and mother of a young adult son with autism, said, “Our organization helps up to four individuals with developmental disabilities come together and live comfortably under one roof. At the Karen’s Hope house, these young people can get the critical education and social support they need, while enjoying a level of independence and a high quality of life.”

Jim Padavan, Co-Owner and President at AirDesign, said, “The whole team here at AirDesign was happy to volunteer our time and knowledge to the Karen’s Hope project. Like so many of our friends and neighbors, we know from personal experience how family members with developmental disabilities struggle to balance independence with good support. And as life-long members of this community, we knew this was the kind of place where people step up to help. We asked Carrier® to donate heating and cooling equipment, and S.W. Anderson to provide installation materials, and they both agreed. Down the road, Karen’s Hope will be able to make their donation dollars go farther by having this high-efficiency heating and cooling system to keep the residents comfortable while keeping utility bills down.”

The Karen’s Hope house in Seaford will be completed over the next year, with a projected move-in date of Spring 2017. The home will feature a high efficiency air conditioner from Carrier, as well as a hydronic heating system.
