Scope Of Work

The goal for this project was to build a community library that could also serve as a multi-use center for the community. Also important was the requirement that the building make a signature statement  the corner of two major streets, drawing in the public, and complementing the regional design theme. These demands came with an aggressive budget.

As the Design-Builder, Haydon worked closely with the design team to develop a design solution that was both elegant and economical. The need for economy dictated a simple and practical enclosure system. Haydon suggested simple concrete panels with glass infill to fit that need.  A regional flowing water design theme, a desire for controlled natural light and the design team’s concept of a floating roof resulted in a simple curved beam with a light wood infill roof structure that was situated above the concrete panels.

The interior of the building is open to minimize partitions. Various use areas separated by the building configuration, glass partitions and library stacks. Areas are given their identity through lighting, ceiling height, and finish elements. This approach helped to control cost and resulted in an inviting interior space.

This 22,000 SF library houses a 100,000-piece collection. It utilizes RFID and self-service technology and includes, teen, adult, and youth reading spaces, children’s play area, common areas, computer lab, and outdoor seating.
