Scope Of Work
Michigan State University (MSU) expanded their research capabilities in Grand Rapids, Michigan due to a long-range strategy to support laboratories studying a host of medical issues. In order to do that, MSU decided to construct a 160,000-square-foot, multi-story biomedical research building on the site of the former Grand Rapids Press building, located at the corner of Monroe Avenue and Michigan Street in downtown Grand Rapids.
CCC’s scope of work included exterior/interior framing, drywall, acoustical ceilings, specialty ceilings, specialty architectural metal panels, acoustical panels, fireproofing and weather barriers. All work was self-performed by CCC except for two subcontractors being used for spray applied fireproofing and exterior air barriers. CCC self-performed exterior/interior framing, drywall and acoustical ceilings, and acoustical panels.
A challenging aspect of the project was gaining access to work in the six-story atrium and performing many other installations within this seven-story facility. Full height scaffolding was used to complete all trade installations in the area which required added safety measures. Also, the atrium is capped with a skylight which posed further safety conditions.
