Scope Of Work

A new Detroit Events Center, Little Caesars Arena, was constructed in midtown Detroit with an indoor arena that has become the home of the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons. Construction began late April 2015, and total cost was over $657 million to construct.

The 785,000-square-foot arena features a glass-roofed concourse, connecting it to surrounding offices and shops, and forming an indoor “street” that will be open to the public. The arena was built as a “bowl,” with its ice surface 40 feet below street level, and the bowl rising about 75 feet (eight stories) above grade. The projected seating capacity is ~20,000.

Given their Detroit-based, minority-owned status, along with their experience in construction, Tooles Contacting Group was awarded the $39 million contract to perform construction for concrete work. Tooles self-performed 47% of the concrete work, along with experienced concrete workers from CCC, and subcontracted 15% to three other Detroit-based businesses.

The concrete work included ~50,000 cubic yards of self-perform concrete work by Tooles/CCC included reinforcing, placing and finishing the following:
