Scope Of Work

Detroit Contracting, Inc. was awarded the construction of the Cohn Simulator Lab Phase 2 (Rooms 222, 224, 226). The project was to convert three (3) existing classrooms into nursing student simulation labs complete with conference room and a simulation debriefing room. This work was required to be performed while classes were in session in the adjacent classrooms, therefore there had to be some creative solutions to accomplishing the working while not disrupting the university and maintaining a high productivity level.

The specific scope of the project was to demolish the existing classrooms and convert to two separatesimulation labs complete with a control room to monitor the activities within the simulation labs. Demolition entailed the removal of all existing flooring, ceiling grid and tile, marker boards, room clocks, ductwork, as well as one of the dividing walls. Since the space was reconfigured it was required that the current HVAC system be modified to accommodate the new configuration. Additional VAV boxes were required as well as a split system wall unit to maintain the control room to a consistent temperature. With all the new equipment required to operate within the space a new feeder panel was needed which was fed from a panel in the basement. Additional electrical scope of work consisted of: New lights and outlets throughout the space, cameras and monitors, modified the current fire alarm system, motorized projection screen, card access to the simulation lab, and A/V equipment. Wood doors, ceiling grid and acoustical ceiling. Resilient flooring, carpet and wall base. Millwork, base and wall cabinets throughout the simulation labs and storage rooms. Plaster repair and painting. New marker board. Curtain and curtain tracks for the five bed units. Each bed was complete with a headwall unit which included all the services (air, vacuum, oxygen, electrical, nurse call, computer data, etc.) needed within a hospital room.
