Scope Of Work
The Port Society Complex combines the historic Seamen’s Bethel with the historic Mariner’s Home. The project is a complete restoration of both buildings and the construction of an addition which combines the buildings into one facility. The addition serves as a main entrance to both buildings while providing ADA access via a five-stop commercial elevator. The project has museum space for The Whaling Museum, office space for the Waterfront Historic Area LeaguE and The New Bedford Port Society and a fully air-conditioned space in The Bethel for functions and weddings. The nearly $3,000,000.00 dollar project took several years of planning and nine months for R. P. Valois Craftsmen to restore.
