Driesenga and Associates provided site development services including surveying, stormwater and sanitary sewer design, construction staking and a unique irrigation-free landscape planting plan. A reclaimed urban Brownfield was utilized, taking advantage of existing infrastructure and access. Site work was congruent with the United States Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - Version 2.1 certification criteria for sustainable sites and water efficiency.
Constructed for Grand Valley State University in Muskegon, Michigan, this 25,000 square foot building was the first newly constructed facility in Michigan to receive "Gold Certification" as a LEED® building, and was the 10th building in the country to receive this designation. The Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center (MAREC) is the first fully integrated demonstration facility for distributed generation of electricity using alternative and renewable energy technologies in the United States.
