Scope Of Work
At $87,000,000.00, the I-44/U.S. 75 Interchange contract is the single largest dollar amount ever awarded for a highway construction project in Tulsa.
This contract also holds the toughest deadline penalty ever written by ODOT at $60,000/day. Due to the aggressive nature of this schedule and complexities of this project, our team had to get creative to find ways to deliver this project on time and without penalty. This project included the full reconstruction of five bridges: Union Avenue bridge over I-44, the NB and SB U.S. 75 bridges over I-44, and the NB and SB U.S. 75 bridges over Mosier Creek. It also included the majority of the substructure for five additional bridges, which will serve as the future flyover ramps, replacing the existing outdated cloverleaf interchange, which is no longer sufficient for today’s traffic volumes.
Under this contract, we also expanded I-44 from four lanes to six lanes (three in each direction), while U.S. 75 was expanded from four lanes to eight lanes (four in each direction). Initially, U.S. 75 will be striped for three lanes in each direction until the remainder of the corridor is widened to eight lanes. To accommodate the additional highway width and new ramp configuration, West Skelly Drive was also reconstructed with two 12’ wide driving lanes on an offset alignment to the south. The intersections at both 51st St. and Union Avenue and Skelly Drive and Union Avenue were also reconstructed with major City of Tulsa waterline and sanitary sewer improvements.
