Scope Of Work

Project Details

ETIC provided site assessment and environmental consulting services for various Sara Lee sites throughout northern California. Sara Lee fueled its fleet of vehicles, using gasoline and diesel stored in underground storage tanks (USTs) at the bakeries and distribution facilities.  Soil and groundwater contamination was discovered at some sites during removal of the USTs.

Our Approach

ETIC conducted assessment work to identify the sources of contamination and remediate.  Descriptions of the individual Sara Lee work scopes are provided below:

Sara Lee, Antioch, California

ETIC performed quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling, installed groundwater monitoring wells to further evaluate the extent of the contaminant plume, and then performed pilot testing of dual-phase extraction and treatment to evaluate its feasibility for remediation.  Soil, soil vapor, and groundwater investigations were conducted to assess the effectiveness of remediation which led to implementation of in-situ chemical oxidants as a remedial measure.  Lastly, ETIC performed a sensitive receptor survey to submit verification for environmental case closure.

Sara Lee, Concord, California

ETIC performed quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling, conducted soil, soil vapor, and groundwater investigation to assess the effectiveness of remediation, and then installed groundwater monitoring wells to evaluate the extent of the contaminant plume.  Lastly, ETIC performed a sensitive receptor survey to submit verification for environmental case closure.

Sara Lee, Oakland, California

ETIC performed a comprehensive soil and groundwater investigation at a site impacted by a release of diesel in the vicinity of a former UST and dispenser.  ETIC was tasked with performing direct-push soil and groundwater sampling and laboratory analysis to evaluate the extent of contamination.

Sara Lee, Stockton, California (3 Sites)

ETIC performed quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling, operation and maintenance (O&M) of the air sparging and soil vapor extraction system and post-remediation groundwater monitoring.  In addition, ETIC conducted soil, soil vapor, and groundwater investigations and performed sensitive receptor surveys.

ETIC performed an assessment and removal of one hydraulic lift system and obtained site closure.
