Scope Of Work
Size & Type of Project – Complete Gut and Phased Expansion of Existing High School
The project consisted of the phased modernization, expansion and renovation of an existing technical school. When design work commenced in 2000, the school consisted of approximately 74, 805 gross framed square feet. All of the existing construction was one story and many of the shop rooms had partial mezzanines. The school was constructed at two different times – initial construction was circa 1967 with an addition built circa 1977.
The project program called for the renovation and modernization of the existing area (74,805 SF) plus a 60,000 SF expansion. Many of the shops, classrooms and administrative areas were small and modernization entailed the removal and/or penetration of existing masonry bearing walls.
The planned 60,000 SF addition was spread over several areas, including a stand-alone structure. Phased construction commenced in late 2002 and was completed in 2006 at a cost of $23 Million. Construction work was programmed in such a manner as to allow the school to operate throughout construction.
MCE Scope of Services
Meyer Consulting Engineers Corporation functioned as the Structural Engineer of Record for the project. Our work began with an existing condition inspection of existing facilities (wherein existing framing layout was compared to original structural drawings) and then proceeded to the schematic, design development, construction document, and construction administration phases of the work.
