Scope Of Work
This compact, ultra-functional two-story facility built into a hillside features an outdoor terrace, office space, dual-use studio and classroom space, a nature lab, and multiple gathering areas. The wooded shores of Lake Delavan are brought indoors through floor to ceiling windows, a reptile and amphibian observation area, and a lounge “nest” that looks out onto a bird feeding station. The center’s 951 square feet can accommodate groups of more than 100 and are centrally situated on the 23-acre property the camp has occupied since 1951. A program of Northwestern Settlement, the camp is accredited by the American Camp Association. A key resource for summer programs for Chicago youth, The Valerie Hall Outdoor Education Center also enables a valuable rental revenue stream yearround.
