Scope Of Work

With Irvine priding itself as the safest city in the country, the Irvine Pedestrian Bridge is a functional and aesthetic masterpiece. SWS provided the metal stud framing and engineering of the framing systems along with the exterior sheathing, waterproof membrane and the Prodema Rain Screen systems.  All this work was performed without shutting down Irvine Blvd.

Uniting two family-oriented neighborhoods with an extensive park and trail system, a pedestrian/cycling bridge spans Irvine Boulevard in Irvine, CA. While the bridge was created for safe pedestrian and bicycle passage from point to point, it is also a destination in itself. At night, the bridge provides a glowing beacon for its travelers, with lighting strategically located to illuminate the grand vertical gateways and to guide walkers, runners, and bikers along the pathway. The challenges were to provide a new exciting walkway between the neighborhoods more unique than former bridges, while still meeting the strict security requirements of the city. With a simple, elegant – and fun - lighting scheme, the new neighborhoods have an iconic element that promotes walking and cycling, encouraging healthy, active families.
