Scope Of Work

The City of Leander was in need of an additional fire administration, training and station for their growing community. Initially the 16,000-sq-ft project was designed and bid as a Design-Bid-Build project, but the cost exceeded the budget by $1.5MM. Instead of putting it on hold, the City re-procured the project using the Design Build method, and Jamail & Smith Construction was selected. We worked hand-in-hand with the owner to reduce the project cost, retain functional requirements and deliver the project within the original budget, while maintaining the aesthetics of the initial design. The fire station, located near the intersection of Sonny Drive and US 183, was situated next to the police station. It housed administrative offices and a learning center for public safety training. The facility included two vehicle bays, living quarters, a large kitchen, a common area, and a burn tower. We value engineered the project and implemented cost-saving solutions, shaving $1.5 million off of the original project cost. Modifications to the initial design included changes to the building envelope, site work, air conditioning, electrical system, plumbing and interior finishes. Despite more than a month of rain delays, Jamail & Smith was able to complete the project ahead of schedule.
