Scope Of Work
This large scale revitalization project of the existing Aqueduct Racetrack located in South Ozone Park, Queens was undertaken by the NYS Office of General Services. The existing racetrack facility was with new vitality by adding a “gaming facility” which is complete with a casino area, new site amenities, a pedestrian bridge connecting with the City Transit Station, and a six level parking garage. The gaming facility was “carved out” of available space within the footprint of the racetrack’s grandstand area and adjoining clubhouse building.
During the design development phase, when the plans were approximately 30% complete, Hirani Engineering & Land Surveying, P.C. was retained by the Architect and OGS to conduct a “Code Compliance Review” of the structural elements and design of the renovation details to create the gaming facility.
Toward the end of the initial structural review OGS and the project Architect approached HIRANI regarding performing a similar code compliance review for the site development plans and details. This review also included a value engineering review to ensure turning radii for anticipated tour bus traffic, along with a review of site details, and general compliance with both NY City and NY State Departments of Transportation standards and design criteria.
Before the code compliance reviews were complete for the two design areas, OGS requested that HIRANI undertake a similar review for the proposed approximately 2,000 vehicle, six level parking garage. This code compliance review also included site and traffic circulations reviews within the proposed parking structure and also its surrounding access points.
