The award-winning, state-of-the-art home of the Chihuahuas, El Paso’s Triple-A baseball franchise, Southwest University Ballpark consists of 181,000 square-feet and an official capacity of 9,500, divided between 7,200 fixed seats, 24 luxury suites, and outfield berm seating. Features of this mixed-use ballpark include a team store, merchandising concessions, box office, press facilities, scoreboard, video production offices, team office space, and restaurant/bar area. Concession facilities include specialty cooking and vending areas for club and suite patrons, general commissary, and point-of-sale vending locations. Additional work includes the demolition of existing buildings, utility improvements, major and minor infrastructure, and reinforcement of railroad structures adjacent to the site. The project meets Smart Growth design principles and Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) and is the first minor league ballpark to earn the distinction of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council.
