Scope Of Work
Bartlett Cocke General Contractors was selected to provide Construction Manager-at-Risk services for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s new Nursing Education Center. Given that advances in healthcare are now focusing on providing care as a team, the overarching concept for the function of the facility quickly became “collaboration and team learning.” Designed by GSC Architects, the education spaces are designed around technology-saturated and collaborative concepts. While the building has some traditional lecture halls, 90% of the classrooms in the building feel less like a classroom and more like a group room. An entire floor of the building is dedicated to a medical simulation center to serve the nursing students as well to host training for area healthcare professionals.
The building is a three-story structural steel and composite deck structure with light gauge metal truss system roof framing. The exterior finish is masonry with both brick and cast stone and EIFS accents. Unusual to commercial buildings, the Nursing Education Center has a shingle roof to match other school buildings and provide continuity with the campus aesthetic.
