Civic Theatre of Allentown - Renovations and Restoration
Civic's Nineteenth Street Theater in Allentown was originally built in 1928 and is a treasured architectural landmark in the city's West End. Civic operates a full-time cinema exclusively showing art, independent and foreign films, live theatre productions and a theatre school. The existing building is structurally sound but was in need of upgrades and restoration.
Designed in the "High Art Deco Style," special care was taken to preserve the integrity of the facility's architectural elements and ornamentation. Plaster ceiling and wall water damage was repaired and the Art Deco trim and murals in the lobby and auditorium were cleaned and restored. Plaster restoration included fabrication and replication of missing or damaged ornaments, patching and repairing of damaged areas.
Phases I and II of the project included:
Exterior renovations
New interior elevators
Office renovations
Basement Renovations
Electrical, HVAC, sprinkler, and general plumbing upgrades
Back of House and stage upgrades
Lobby and concession stand renovations
New patron lounge and box office
Front of House / Auditorium restoration and decorative
architectural work
