Scope Of Work
Quandel was selected to be the construction manager for the City of Pottsville?s new $18 million Union Station Intermodal facility. To make way for the construction of the expansive Union Station, Quandel had to demolish several properties on Centre Street and manage difficult site conditions.
In order to overcome the challenge of a 40-foot elevation difference between the main upper bus loop to the intermodal facility and the lower level public parking lot on the site, the project team evaluated numerous options. They chose an economical approach which incorporated a cast-in-place concrete retaining wall for the main building and a precast segmented T-wall system for the remaining site walls around the upper bus loop drop off. Temporary sheeting and shoring was required to support existing streets and buildings while the work was being completed. In addition, a significant temporary de-watering system had to be incorporated into the program to handle the significant volume of groundwater and stormwater at the building site.
The three-story, 24,000-square-foot facility houses a bus station, a Pottsville police sub-station, the Schuylkill County Visitors Bureau and commercial space available for lease. The facility handles local bus transportation for Schuylkill County as well as Trailways and Greyhound bus companies. The parking lot and elevated parking allows for approximately.
