Scope Of Work
The Supreme Court of Virginia building is a compilation of different construction phases from 1919, 1921, 1930, and 1950. This project involved replacement of the 1919 and 1950 roof systems, roof drains and associated piping. The roof had been experiencing leaks for an extended period of time and was past its life expectancy.
Completion of this renovation required demolition of a brick and limestone screen wall around the cooling towers that had been a source of water infiltration because of deterioration. New steel was installed to raise a roof area and deteriorating steel pieces such as stairs, ladders, and ramps were replaced. Piping was put in below the roof, in the ceiling space of the floor below. This project required a seamless blend of past and present renovations and unification of four separate construction phases over the last century. In addition, green processes were implemented where possible. All metal and copper was salvaged and compact fluorescent bulbs were installed in temporary lighting that only turned on when it was dark.
