Scope Of Work
Spectrum Health required a very specific type of construction for its state-of-the-art cancer-treatment facility, which would house and protect a linear accelerator on top of a four-story concrete parking structure. Grand River Construction started with a base slab that was seven feet thick, added walls that were three-feet by seven-feet thick and topped it with a ceiling slab that was four-feet thick. Eight-inches-thick steel plates embedded in the vertical and horizontal members provide radiation protection. And all of it required extensive jobsite coordination between the facility owners, the construction management firm, and other contractors to meet the project’s scheduled milestones.
