Our Story
Formed in 1982 by Allen Cates and Bill Courtney, Cates-Courtney, Inc. began concrete contracting operations in Fort Worth, TX with offices at Hemphill and Bolt at the old Texas Steel Plant Office. Both Allen and Bill had served at Joe Adams and Son, Inc. for many years prior to starting their own business. After several years there and many successful projects, the company moved to their present location on Stuart Drive in South Ft. Worth near the Intersection of I-35 and Berry St.
Some of the major jobs and customers the early company had were the Channel Eleven office and studio on I-30 in Ft. Worth and the M&M/Mars Candy Plant in Waco. Other customers early on were Miller Brewery, Alcon Labs, Six Flags over Texas, Bell Helicopter, and General Motors.
Mr. Cates, suffering from ill health retired in 1992 and Mr. Courtney passed on in 1996 leaving the company to Mrs. Courtney. Mrs. Courtney along with Wayne Southerland ran the business until 2001 when it was purchased by Steven Roebuck of Ft Worth. Along with the sale of the company to Roebuck came the name change to Cates, Courtney & Roebuck, LP.
Steven Roebuck also had long term tenure at Joe Adams and Son for 22 years, where he met Allen and Bill. Allen had actually hired Steve Roebuck at Adams in 1976. It was this relationship (formed in 1976) which would eventually lead to the change of ownership at Cates-Courtney later on in 2001.
After just 5 ½ years since the ownership change, the Company has experienced growth and success beyond that which was expected. Our Bonding Company and our Bankers are well pleased and have joined us to insure we are capable to contract the jobs and finance the work which fit into our overall program.
