Scope Of Work
The Shipley Foundation gifted $10.5 million to the BU School of Medicine to create a prostate cancer research center on the Medical Campus together with a website providing information about treatment options.
Timberline performed a gut renovation of an existing facility to create this advanced medical research center. The new laboratory features benches with specialty steel casework, fume hoods and eye-wash stations together with a microscopy room, walk-in cold room and tissue-culture lab. The work involved installation of all new MEP systems and process piping in addition to support services ranging from de-ionized water, Quench water, and RO water systems to natural gas and a vacuum system.
Built in a fully-functioning lab building meant extreme care had to be exercised to ensure no downtime to the building’s critical systems. During brief pre-scheduled windows, Timberline successfully tied in the lab’s all new MEP systems to the existing infrastructure.
Timberline also created office space and a new conference room featuring structural glass walls adjacent to the lab. Research at the Shipley Center is focused on new, less invasive treatment options for prostate cancer patients in addition to development of genetic testing options.
