Scope Of Work

The 38,833 square foot Seabee Museum in Port Hueneme, CA was designed and built to honor the legacy of the US Navy Seabees and the Civil Engineer Corps. This single story museum, inspired by the Seabee Quonset Hut, was constructed using a lightweight exterior concrete wall system with a single-ply PVC roof and radius standing seam metal paneling. The bearing walls of this concrete wall system supported long span trusses to provide a spacious environment for displays. One of the most prominent features of this facility is a full-height glazed curtain wall at both the entry to the museum and the Memorial Garden entryway.
The Museum houses galleries for exhibition space, a grand hall, a theater for 45 people, offices, a classroom, a conference room, a retail store, separate public and staff restrooms, collection storage, processing areas, and research areas. This ADA compliant facility has been designed and built to consider future expansion on the north side of the museum. The primary functions of the Seabee Museum are to provide galleries, administrative areas, and archive storage. RQ provided audio/visual infrastructure for future exhibits, intrusion detection system, public address system, and lighting controls. Highlights of the finishes include polished concrete flooring, custom millwork, and complete furnishing of the retail space.
