Scope Of Work
As with any occupied facility, our main goal was to keep the students and faculty safe during our work. This project was broken down into 7 distinct phases. The 28,000 sf of new additions serves as a new entry, media center, cafeteria, kitchen and administrative offices. To go along with 52,000 sf of renovations and reprogramming of space were additional classroom spaces. Temporary barricades and walkways were constructed to direct faculty and students during the construction phase through and around the work area.
One of the keys to success was the relocation and additional power requirements of the project. We worked closely with Dominion Power and the School System to coordinate the changeover. We were able to install a connecting link ahead of time to facilitate the secondary lines feeding the entire school. The need for temporary heating and cooling was accomplished by close phasing of rooftop and ground mounted equipment.
During the summer months we constructed a new bus loop and drop off. We also constructed a temporary parking area of stone and then paved it during school break. Two small phases of “summertime only” work were started and completed for the new school year. Working closely with the Staff and School System, we conducted bi-weekly coordination meetings. The only way we were going to be successful was if all committed to honest and open communication about the issues in front of us. It was always “our”problem to solve and from that attitude came success.
